Annual RCA Development Camp

 

Shawnigan Lake, March 1 to March 7, 2010


The purpose of the camp is to introduce new athletes to the training centre environment. They will have an opportunity to row in small boats alongside the VTC carded athletes under the direction of National Team coaches during the week. During the camp the athletes will also participate in extensive physical testing conducted by the Victoria based (IST) Integrated Support Team. Nightly lecture type information sessions on technique and training as well as performance analysis and video analysis will round out the experience.
On Saturday March 6th the group will travel down from Shawnigan Lake to Victoria to compete at in the Elk Lake Spring Regatta. On Saturday and Sunday night the camp athletes will be billeted by local VTC athletes.

Athletes selected for the camp will be provided a $500 flight credit (for any athlete traveling from outside of BC) and all costs will be covered while at the camp in Shawnigan/Victoria.

A group of athletes have already been pre-identified for invitation based on performance at the NRCs, Canada Summer Games and the erg monitoring program.

Heavy Men:

Clark Tyler, Mike Lewis, Mike Flynn, Keegan Drummond, Derek Makken, Will Mathews

Light Men:

Ben Cushnie, Jake Cushnie, Renaud Geron - Gendron, Rob Ballard, Kristjan Joubert, Travis King

Light Women:

Patricia Obee, Catherine Bouchard-Pilote, Alex Meiklejohn, Elizabeth Fenje

Heavy Women:

Claudia Blandford, Carling Zeeman, Laura Cowal ON, Jody Schuurman, Lisa Roman, Sarah Aylard, Natalie Mastracci, Sarah Black, Ashton Brown

There are 6-8 additional positions available to well qualified athletes to apply for attendance at the camp. Selection will be based on performance in the erg monitoring program or coach recommendation.
