It's Official - Rowing takes off in PEI!

dock in CharlottetownFollowing the impetus created by the Canada Summer Games, held in PEI in the summer of 2009, and given added momentum by Beijing bronze medalist Tracy Cameron's whirlwind promotional tour in February this year, rowing in PEI has now launched.
Spearheaded by Stephen Murray, who's son rowed for PEI in the Canada Summer Games, a small group has created a rowing club in Charlottetown, and starts their first Learn to Row program in June. For full details on rowing programs, go to http://rowingpei.blogspot.com/
Based at the Charlottetown Yacht Club for this season, Rowing PEI is off to a great start already, having just picked up the Rowing Canada Aviron (RCA) Recreational Fleet, which will enable this fledgling club to create programs, and spread the word about rowing in PEI.
Murray says, ‘the help and guidance that RCA has given us every step of the way has been invaluable. Also, PEI' successful bid for the RCA Recreational Fleet for the next two seasons is a critical factor in our ability build capacity and promote rowing in PEI. A huge thank you to Rowing Canada for all their support."
Martin George, Domestic Development Officer for RCA adds, "this is an exciting time for rowing in Canada. PEI is expecting to move towards PSO status at the end of the year, which is a crucial step in the ability of our sport to continue to grow nationally."

Donate a boat!

Any clubs that have equipment such as boats , and oars, that may be surplus to their needs, should consider supporting the development of Rowing PEI, by donating this equipment. Rowing PEI will take boats in any condition.
Should you be looking to replace old boats, the Growing Rowing program may be right for your club. Rowing Canada Aviron, in conjunction with Hudson Boatworks, has put together the Growing Rowing concept, where a donation coordinated by RCA, enables the purchaser of a new Hudson to receive a discount.
