2011-2012 Rowing Canada Aviron
Irow Youth Rowing Development Grants

Background:

For the past two years, Rowing Canada Aviron with support from Sport Canada has continued to develop the irow youth rowing program with a focus on communicating and implementing the values of our sport, involving all youth, and engaging students in a fun and rewarding rowing experience.

Through this program RCA has distributed over $60,000 in support to member clubs working with us to advance youth rowing participation in Canada. For 2011-12, RCA is pleased to announce continued support from Sport Canada for this program and the guidelines of the new program are outlined below:

Application Process:

In 2012, RCA will provide between $2,500 and $5,000 in directed funding to a number of rowing clubs across Canada to assist in the development of youth rowing in their respective school communities. Please note that applications with matching funds or close to matching funds will be given greater consideration. This can be "in kind" and should be noted in your budget. This funding is directed towards the Learning to Train stage of the Long Term Athlete Development (LTAD) model.

All applicants must provide, with this application, a letter of support from their Provincial Rowing Association. This can be done through a paper or electronic copy.

The online application and PRA letter of support must be received by 11:59 (PST) December 15, 2011. Applications received after this deadline will not be accepted. PRA's will be contacted regarding the status of applications within their province.

Please Note:

Clubs applying for these grants must be members in good standing with their respective PRA and RCA. Successful applicants will agree to provide an interim report by July 15, 2012 and a complete report by October 31, 2012. These reports will provide data on number of students engaged, number of students registered with your club, PRA and RCA, and feedback on the irow program and any other successes pertinent to the program. (Failure to provide these reports will result in the member club being ineligible for future grants)

Grant Allocation:

A minimum of one grant will be allocated to a rowing club who directs funding to programs for New Canadians, an aboriginal community, or a financially disadvantaged community group.

Previous grant recipients may be considered for this round of grants if they provide justification for receiving additional money, describing how it would benefit their existing youth rowing program.

Review and award of applications will be completed and announced at the RCA National Rowing Conference on January 28, 2012.
