 Rowing Canada Aviron (RCA), the National Sports Organization for the sport of rowing in Canada, is committed to the development and promotion of rowing in Canada. Its mission is to foster excellence and teamwork for life through rowing. It is committed to delivering value to its members in the key areas of:

Governing the sport

  • Publishes policy and guidelines on safety, ethical conduct and other matters
  • Sets the rules of racing for fairness and safety
  • Licenses rowing umpires
  • Certifies coaches
  • Sanctions regattas
  • Monitors compliance with rules of racing at sanctioned regattas
  • Distributes a safety video to clubs prepared by Rowing Canada Aviron.

Enhancing individuals' competencies

Rowers

  • publishes a rowing skills instructional guide - Journey 1,2,3
  • publishes a long term athlete development model
  • provides rowing instructional material on the web site
  • participates in the annual CanAmMex camp, a development tool for juniors

Coaches

  • designs the coach training curriculum
  • provides coach mentoring programs
  • organizes an annual coaches' conference

Umpires

  • provides umpires instruction manual
  • produces an instructional video for umpires

Encouraging competition

  • conducts the following annual national championship regattas - the Royal Canadian Henley Regatta (club championship), an Inter-Provincial Championships, the Canadian national Championships and the Canadian Open Masters Championships
  • provides travel subsidy to provincial rowing associations to attend the Inter-Provincial Championships

Leading the sport in international competition

  • provides an athlete development model leading to international competition
  • organizes, develops, selects and trains national rowing teams at the senior A, Under 23 and junior levels to represent Canada at World Championships and the Olympic Games
  • represents Canada at FISA, Pan American Games and Commonwealth Rowing Association meetings
  • supports Canadian representation on FISA committees

Promoting the sport

  • appoints committees to foster growth in recreational, masters, touring and adaptive rowing
  • establishes alliances with associations promoting the sport of rowing such as the Canadian University Rowing Association and Go Rowing and Paddling Association of Canada
  • establishes relations with the media, issuing press releases on rowing matters and organizing press conferences
  • arranges the production of branded merchandise

Providing services to members

  • provides valuable public liability and accident insurance coverage for all its members with respect to sanctioned rowing activities
  • provides Wrongful Acts, Errors & Omissions coverage to Directors and Officers of member clubs and associations rowing activities
  • provides a used equipment program
  • organizes an annual general meeting for all members
  • provides an awards banquet recognizing the achievements of members
  • provides communications on rowing matters through news bulletins and a website
  • offers member discounts on selected products and services
