The Quebec Rowing Association, along with Rowing Canada Aviron, held a development training camp in Montreal at the Excellence Development Center (CDE) located at the Olympic Basin on February 11, 2011. Twenty athletes from clubs, schools and university attended the one day camp. The focus of the camp was predominantly aimed at the RCA technique with sessions (run bilingually) both on ergs and in the tank.
Athletes were informed on pathways to the National team which included RADAR identification.
This was followed by a session outlining the importance of race preparation, and recovery. Athletes were given the task to map out a race plan strategy to be utilized in the concluding workout session of the camp
The special 2km erg preparation workout saw athletes pushing boundaries and competing against each other with most athletes reaching new personal bests!
Special thanks to Vincent Cote (AQA technical coordinator, Boucherville Rowing Club coach), Karol Sauve (CDE senior coach) and Michelle Darvill (RCA development, U23 women national team coach) for organizing and facilitating the camp, Constance Deslauriers (assistant coach) and Tony Tarlo from Sherbrooke Rowing Club for their assistance in coaching, Nicole Bewski for assisting with the special workout and Susan Law (Dawson College coach) for transportation logistics.
