CanAmMex Announcement

INTERNATIONAL REGATTA TO BE HELD IN CANADA’S ROWING MECCA

This year, the CanAmMex International Regatta will be held in St. Catharines, Ont., during the St. Catharines Invitational on July 21. The Junior CanAmMex Regatta and Training Camp is an annual event rotated between Mexico, United States and Canada.

For many of Canada’s junior rowers, this regatta represents their first taste of international competition representing their country.

"We are pleased that CanAmMex will be in St. Catharines this year," said Rowing Canada Aviron President Brenda Liski. “St. Catharines is a centre for rowing and this will give junior athletes from all three nations the opportunity to showcase their talent and enthusiasm for our sport."

The CanAmMex serves two purposes: first, to bring together each country's top developmental junior athletes, coxswains and coaches for friendly, yet high level competition; secondly, this regatta provides a life opportunity for its participants and serves as a cultural experience. For many, CanAmMex will be an important step in development toward further National Junior team or Under 23 and Senior National Team opportunities.

Last year’s regatta was held in Mexico and Canada won the event overall. The last time Canada hosted CanAmMex was in 2004 in Ottawa.
