National Junior Team Training Camp – Shawnigan Lake

Over the past week, 20 athletes have been attending the National Junior Team training camp being held at Shawnigan Lake, BC. For many of these athletes, this is the first opportunity for them to train outside on the water in over three months. It has been a great week, and athletes are having a great time getting to know each other, and getting excited about the upcoming rowing season.

In addition to training, athletes have attended a couple of great presentations that will help them develop. Men's National Team Head Coach Mike Spracklen made a presentation focused on technique, and provided the athletes with invaluable technical pointers. National Team Coordinator Adam Parfitt, along with National Junior Team Leader Gavin McKay, spoke to the athletes about their experience in Beijing, and what these athletes can expect if selected to represent Canada at the FISA World Rowing Junior Championships, being held in August. Aside from some cooler temperatures, wet and windy conditions, and shredded hands, the athletes have had a great experience and are, without a doubt, looking forward to get back home to train for selection.
