Rowing Canada Aviron (RCA) is pleased to announce the appointment of Phil Marshall as Senior Women’s Program Assistant Coach in the lead up to Tokyo 2020.
Working as a key member of the RCA High Performance Team, Phil will be responsible for contributing to the development and delivery of a world leading high performance environment that ensures the success of Canada’s national rowing team at World Championships and Olympic Games.
Phil’s role will provide the key linkage between the National Women’s Head Coach (Dave Thompson), the Senior National Team, and the NextGen/High Performance Athlete Pathway.
Phil has extensive coaching experience with Canadian National Rowing Teams, most recently coaching the Olympic Heavyweight Women’s team in Rio. Phil also worked as Head Coach for the U23 Men’s lightweight program from 2013-2015. He played an integral role in fostering a high performance daily training environment for NextGen athletes.
“I am looking forward to rejoining RCA and getting to work in my role with the women's team,” said Marshall. “There are many exciting developments happening within RCA and I'm thrilled to be a part of it moving forward.”
Marshall brings over 30 years of experience in high performance rowing including his most recent role as Head Coach of the Varsity Rowing Team at Queen’s University.
“I’m excited to welcome Phil back into RCA’s High Performance Program,” said Iain Brambell, RCA High Performance Director. “We feel confident that Phil will bring the expertise and support necessary to underpin a successful performance environment for the National Team Women’s Program, while further contributing towards a cohesive performance culture across RCA’s entire High Performance Program.”
Phil will begin his role as Senior Women’s Program Assistant Coach at the National Training Centre in Victoria on April 9th, 2018.
