Monday, June 5, 2017 – Rowing Canada Aviron (RCA) congratulates the Canadian Secondary Schools Rowing Association (CSSRA) for their successful organization and operation of the 72nd Annual Championship Regatta which took place this past weekend in St. Catharines, Ontario.
The regatta welcomed over 2000 student-athletes with their 464 coaches from 123 schools, all competing in 36 events for 108 medals. E.L. Crossley Secondary School successfully defended their men’s and women’s titles, winning the 2017 Efficiency Awards.
“On behalf of the CSSRA Board, I want to congratulate all the athletes who competed under ideal race conditions Friday and Saturday” said Ken Campbell, Regatta Chair, CSSRA. “Also, I want to congratulate the 36 new Canadian Champions. The weather was a concern but never materialized so we had some great racing. I also want to thank the 300 volunteers who worked tirelessly over the weekend. Next year’s regatta will take place June 1 – 3, 2018.”
“Year-after-year, we’re treated to spectacular rowing from Canada’s top secondary schools,” said Terry Dillon, chief executive officer, RCA. “Congratulations to all the athletes, who should be proud of their incredible achievements this weekend. Thank you to all the dedicated supporters of this event – from the volunteers and umpires who commit their time and energy to delivering a fun and safe regatta to the coaches, family and friends who support the athletes each step of the way. We look forward to seeing everyone again next year.”
Next year’s regatta will take place from June 1 – 3. For more information on the 72nd Annual Regatta including results, please visit the CSSRA website.
