Wednesday, July 12, 2017 – RCA congratulates Halifax Rowing Club (Halifax, NS), and Victoria City Rowing Club (Victoria, BC) as the recipients of the RCA Coastal Fleet Program.
Hanlan Boat Club has enjoyed the coastal fleet (two Eurodiffusion 2x’s) for their own rowing programs, along with sharing these boats for The ROWONTARIO Coastal event, the Ontario Adventure Rowing Society tours and the Canada 150 Row3Capitals Relay. To find out more about how the Coast Fleet program was utilized at Hanlan Boat Club, please watch this video.
This year, the coastal fleet has grown with the addition of two new coastal boats. Victoria City Rowing Club will receive two Eurodiffusion coastal doubles and Halifax Rowing Club will receive a Eurodiffusion coastal double and a Eurodiffusion 1x (Rowboard). Both clubs will have use of these boats through to the spring of 2019.
"The Halifax Rowing Club is so pleased to be chosen to host part of the RCA Coastal Fleet,” said Linda Lee, president, Halifax Rowing Club. “The two boats will allow the club to offer new rowing opportunities to our members and to outlying Halifax communities. HRC is so excited to explore and teach rowing in the beautiful and rugged coves, inlets and beaches that stretch along Nova Scotia's majestic coastline."
“VCRC is very excited to host the RCA Coastal Fleet,” Brenda Taylor, club manager, Victoria City Rowing Club. “The stable coastal boats will support existing VCRC introductory programs, allow older members to continue to be active in the sport they love and will be used to offer coastal touring in local waters to rowers from VCRC and other clubs. We hope that the opportunity to explore coastal waters in a rowing shell will attract new people to rowing and re-engage those who are looking for a new and different rowing experience. We are looking forward to taking our rowing to Saanich Inlet, the Victoria Waterway loop and the local islands!”
RCA thanks all member clubs and associations who applied for the Coastal Fleet Program. For resources to support clubs and programs or for more information on the Coastal Fleet Program, please contact Colleen Miller.
