RCA SAFETY VIDEO

DVD promotes and demonstrates safe practices for rowers

Safety starts before you go on the water . . .

Many accidents occur as the result of un-informed or ill-considered decisions being made before leaving the boathouse. Weather and water conditions, time of day, the equipment and appropriate supervision, are all critical components that must be assessed in order to ensure that it is a safe rowing situation.

Safety is everyone’s business. The safety procedures presented in this video may not cover every situation so rowers and coaches must take personal responsibility to be aware of any risks, identify hazardous situations and employ reasonable safety procedures.

The Rowing Canada Aviron safety video has been shot presenting multiple angles and slow-motion illustrations of “how to” row more safely. You’ll see how to re-enter a flipped single and how to react in boat swamping incidents. Some commands and specific rowing jargon may be slightly different by region, but there are many common rowing practices offered in the video.

Rowing Canada encourages all clubs, and individuals, to implement and practice these Guidelines . . . to minimize the risks, and maximize the enjoyment of our sport.

Watch the video. You’ll laugh . . . you’ll cry. But in the end, you’ll row more safely.

Chapters include:

  • At the Boathouse
